My first consulting firm they said that about the internet. Consulting isn't dead. We just have to use AI to bring even smart advice, perspective, and DELIVERY! (don't forget) to the clients. Love this piece. Thank you for it.

This makes me think it may be time to update the Trust Equation for consultants

Maybe something like Trustworthiness = (Expertise + Impact + Humanity) * Vulnerability

I'm seeing clients increasingly demanding deep proprietary and specific expertise + the ability to actually deliver value (reliability is table stakes now). Humanity is critical in the age of AI. And the trust building super-power of Vulnerability is something I see over and over again.

What I have found in my practice isn’t just slide decks with the “drag and drop” approach. Rather, as a consultant and leadership development coach, I focus on the incremental change and transformation that needs to occur with the actual decision makers. At the end of the day, AI will transform, for sure. But, it is the actual person who occupies the “chair” that will make the decision. That, at this point is not replaced by AI.

Consultancy is all about relationship, coaching and counseling for the decision makers who have lost such in the era of tech, AI and social media.

Thanks for your comment Troy. I couldn't agree more. Consulting has always pivoted on trust and increasingly we are seeing that AI is making that an even more so.

In a world where you can't really trust anything you read or see online, the relationship with that real person 'in the chair' as you articulated it, becomes central to everything.
