Webinar: Campaign-Led Learning

A new approach to consultant development that has been proven to work

This is the recording from a recent Honeycomb Consulting Skills Training webinar. If you’d rather listen than watch, the audio can be accessed as a podcast through all major podcast apps instead. Just search ‘The Skilled Consultant podcast’.

In this session, Honeycomb Founder and MD Deri Hughes shares a practical approach to a common challenge: how to get busy consultants to engage with learning. Deri shares evidence—from industry research and Honeycomb client work—that when self-serve learning sits alone, completion rates are low and real behaviour change is rare.

He introduces the idea of campaign-led learning: a shared, time-bound learning journey (usually 8–12 weeks) where participants work through curated content, apply it in their projects, and share progress with a peer group.

The format combines:

  • Self-serve learning content (from any source)

  • Optional paths based on individual PDPs

  • Live peer sessions and async reflections

  • Light-touch coaching and nudges

  • Clear, practical activities that build skill and confidence

Deri stresses that it’s not about adding more training. It’s about creating enough structure, rhythm and community for self-serve learning to stick.

The model has already shown strong results, including a 78% increase in learning hours in one client firm, using the same content but delivered through a different structure.

Consultants report higher confidence, stronger peer connection, and visible changes in how they approach client work. And crucially, these campaigns often lead to tangible business outcomes—like improved project delivery or even new revenue opportunities mid-campaign.

What you’ll take away

This webinar will give you some tangible and practical outcomes, including:

  • A proven way to boost learning engagement without increasing live training

  • A six-step process for designing your own campaign

  • Examples of campaign formats, themes, and success stories

  • Insight into what really drives learning behaviour in consulting firms

  • A flexible model that balances structure with autonomy

Deri closes by inviting L&D leads and team managers to try the model themselves—starting with a single learning theme relevant to at least five people, and building from there. It doesn’t require a full LMS or expensive infrastructure. Just thoughtful design, peer support, and a focus on what actually motivates consultants to learn.
